A technical meeting was held on Wednesday, 11 July 2012 to present and discuss the findings of the project on its components tackling marine and coastal zone monitoring and management.  The workshop had the following objectives:

  • Review and share with relevant stakeholders the preliminary findings of the projects;
  • Collect recommendations and additional data and information from experts to finalize the outputs;
  • Engage relevant stakeholders in future activities and data collection, if needed.

Forty one (41) participants attended the coastal zone monitoring and management meeting, mostly from active Non-Governmental Organizations and academic/scientific institutions, directly involved on matters related to the coastal zone and marine environment.  The consultants from the University of Balamand (UoB) presented their methodology for identifying the biodiversity and culturally sensitive areas as well as the proposed clusters for monitoring.  Furthermore, the team presented the results of their assessment of land-use changes along the coastal zone while highlighting the major vulnerabilities requiring attention through an integrated coastal zone management strategy.
